PetroChina Qinghai Oilfield Plans to Develop a Heavyweight Wind, Solar, Gas, and Hydrogen Project

Recently, the "2024 Development and Construction Plan for Key Projects in the Qinghai Electric Power Industry" was published in Qinghai province. The plan shows that 15 new energy storage projects will be built in Qinghai province in 2024, including the 1 million kilowatt wind and solar hydrogen project of PetroChina Qinghai Oilfield, which will be supported by green electricity hydrogen production (hydrogen energy). This is China Petroleum¡äs first large-scale green hydrogen project.
Located in Haixi Prefecture, Qinghai Province, this project is a supporting energy storage project for the 1-million-kilowatt wind and solar gas hydrogen project of PetroChina Qinghai Oilfield. The project includes 300,000 kilowatts of gas and electricity, and 100,000 standard cubic meters of hydrogen produced by electrolysis of water per hour. It is expected to be completed and put into operation simultaneously with its new energy body in 2024. If calculated based on an hourly hydrogen production capacity of 100,000 cubic meters, it is expected to produce at least 70000 tons of hydrogen annually.
In terms of scale, this is a large-scale green hydrogen project. With a wind power and photovoltaic installed capacity of 500,000 kilowatts, the 1-million-kilowatt wind and solar hydrogen project of PetroChina Qinghai Oilfield is one of the third national wind and solar power bases. While the photovoltaic power has started to be put into operation and is expected to be completed in June, the wind power is currently under preliminary design and survey and measurement, and the gas and electricity power of the supporting energy storage project is also in the construction stage.
For the oilfield, this project will strengthen the replacement of clean energy in Qinghai oilfield, help it build a green oilfield, and accelerate the construction of an integrated intelligent microgrid of "source grid load storage" with "salt lake gas field photovoltaic plus energy storage".
For China Petroleum, this hydrogen project is an important step in its hydrogen development and also an important layout for expanding its hydrogen industry.
