On June 10th, Henan Kaixiang Chemical Co., Ltd. successfully completed the entire process and produced qualified calcium sulfate whisker products for the annual production of 10,000 tons of calcium carbide slag to prepare calcium sulfate whiskers project, marking the official launch of the first domestic calcium sulfate whisker project using calcium carbide slag.

It is reported that the project started construction in July 2022 and was mechanically completed in December 2023. Following trial production, the entire process was completed with qualified products manufactured on June 10. Currently, the main performance indicators of the product, such as calcium sulfate content and whiteness, have reached the group standard. The project uses solid waste carbide slag generated during the production of 1,4-butanediol by the enterprise as feedstock, and adopts a mature hydrothermal synthesis combined crystallization process to produce calcium sulfate whisker products. The project belongs to a green, resource-based, and circular utilization project. The implementation of the project can help enterprises eliminate safety and environmental hazards in the storage, transportation, and disposal of solid waste, while further stretching the existing industrial and product chains, thus achieving economic benefits and green environmental protection.

Combining the advantages of reinforced fibers and ultrafine inorganic fillers, calcium sulfate whiskers are widely used in friction materials, plastics, rubber, papermaking, coatings and paints among other fields, with broad market applications.
