Tianjin Signs Contract for 100,000-Tonne Biomass-based Green Methanol Project

2024-7-23

Recently, the Tianjin Port Free Trade Zone Green Methanol Industry Development Plan Symposium and the Signing Ceremony for the Strategic Cooperation of the 100,000-tonne/year Biomass Green Methanol Project were successfully held. Participating companies discussed the profound impact of green methanol development on shipping, covering aspects such as the technical route for biomass gasification to methanol, the current industrial landscape, advantage analysis, and future port layouts.

Currently, there are certain obstacles to large-scale production of biomass-based methanol, including issues like the low energy density of biomass raw materials, inadequate policy support, and a lack of a systematic industrial chain ecosystem. These problems urgently need to be addressed. This signing ceremony represents a "breakthrough" for the industry, as it marks a joint exploration to establish a green methanol industrial chain ecosystem, fostering collaboration, shared development, and mutual benefits.

According to the agreement, Tianjin Deyu Biotechnology Co., Ltd. will engage in deep cooperation with Tianjin Jinbao Environmental Investment and Development Co., Ltd. in areas such as the resource utilization of biomass waste, giant reed afforestation projects, and the production and processing of biomass particles. By establishing and improving the carbon footprint of biomass raw materials, it aims to provide sustainable supplies of high-quality biomass raw materials for the implementation of the green methanol project.
