The Intermediate Handover of the Largest Domestic Battery Electrolyte Solvent Project
2024-8-15
Recently, the first phase of the 500,000 tons/year DMC project, a demonstration project to produce new chemical materials through coal quality-based utilization by the Yulin Chemistry Division of Shaanxi Coal and Chemical Industry Group, contracted by East China Engineering Science & Technology Co., Ltd., has completed its intermediate handover. This represents the largest battery electrolyte solvent project in China currently and marks the first large-scale deployment of high-purity dimethyl carbonate (DMC) in Shaanxi Province.
Located in Qingshui Industrial Park, Yushen Industrial Zone, Yulin, Shaanxi Province, the project has a total investment of approximately RMB 4.765 billion and will be implemented in two phases. The first phase involves a capacity of 100,000 tons/year of DMC, while the second phase will reach 400,000 tons/year. High-purity DMC products are primarily used as solvents for lithium-ion battery electrolytes. The project introduces Japan¡äs advanced technology, the methanol gas-phase oxidative carbonylation method, which utilizes carbon monoxide, oxygen, and methanol as raw materials to produce DMC through a one-step reaction process. This achieves the goal of converting coal locally into high-value-added products. The reaction process is mild, safe, reliable, technologically mature, and produces minimal by-products.
Upon completion, this project will drive the development of the new energy industry in Yulin, foster collaborative industrial chain linkages with other chemical enterprises in the city, and continuously promote the extension of the industrial chain downstream.
