Handover of Binhua New Material Plant Successfully Completed
2024-9-30
On September 28th, the 240,000/742,000 tons per year propylene oxide/methyl tert-butyl ether (PO/MTBE) plant, constructed by the Binhua Engineering Project Department, successfully completed its intermediate handover. The project broke ground in March 2023 and achieved full plant intermediate handover in September 2024, spanning a period of 18 months.
This project is a subproject of Befar Group¡äs "C3 and C4 Comprehensive Utilization Project (Phase II)." Upon reaching full production capacity, the project will add 240,000 tons of propylene oxide, 742,000 tons of methyl tert-butyl ether, 7,500 tons of acetone, and 500 tons of molybdenum oxide. After completion, it is expected to reach 80% of full production capacity in the first year and 100% in the second year.
Propylene oxide (PO) is primarily used in the production of polyethers, propylene glycol, and other products. With nearly 100 downstream products, it serves as an important raw material for fine chemicals. Currently, Befar Group ¡äs propylene oxide production capacity is 270,000 tons. The proposed new 240,000 tons per year propylene oxide project will further enhance the company¡äs core product capacity and increase its market share once operational. Methyl tert-butyl ether (MTBE) is mainly used as a raw material to produce finished gasoline in China, accounting for over 90% of total MTBE demand. As the downstream market for MTBE, the increasing demand for MMA will, to a certain extent, promote the development of the MTBE market.
