The First Phase of Yulin Chemical¡äs Largest Domestic DMC Project is Put into Production

On October 19, the 100,000-ton/year device of the first phase of the 500,000-ton/year DMC project of Yulin Chemical Yugao New Material Co., Ltd. of Shaanxi Coal Group (hereinafter referred to as the first phase of the DMC project) opened the whole process at one time and successfully produced high-quality DMC (dimethyl carbonate) products.
The 500,000-ton/year DMC project of Yulin Chemical Yugao New Material Company is in Yushen Industrial Zone, covering an area of 401 mu. With a total investment of 4.765 billion yuan, upon completion, it will become the largest production base of battery electrolyte solvent in China. It is also the first layout of high-purity (battery grade) DMC in Shaanxi. Relying on the syngas and public works of Shaanxi Coal Group¡äs 15 million tons/year coal quality-based clean and efficient conversion demonstration project, the project uses methanol and carbon monoxide as raw materials and adopts methanol vapor-phase oxidative carbonylation technology to produce battery-grade DMC products with a purity of over 99.99%.
The first phase of the DMC project started construction in February 2023 and was completed and handed over on July 31, 2024, achieving the set goals 62 days ahead of schedule and demonstrating the "acceleration" of high-quality project construction of Shaanxi Coal Group. On this basis, after 80 days and nights of efforts, Yulin Chemical completed production preparation work such as system purging, air tightness testing, interlock debugging, catalyst loading, and system joint operation, achieving the goal of successful one-time feeding and producing qualified products, laying a solid foundation for stable production and quality improvement in the next step.
It is reported that Yugao New Material Company is a holding subsidiary of Yulin Chemical of Shaanxi Coal Group and was established in December 2021. As an important raw material for producing new materials like polycarbonate and new energy lithium batteries, DMC has broad market prospects and high added value.
