SP Chemical¡¯s Propane Dehydrogenation Project Expected to be Put into a Trial Run by Late 2025

Recently, the installation work of equipment and steel structures for the propane dehydrogenation to propylene project at SP Chemical Chemical is close to an end. It is planned to be put into trial operation by the end of 2025 and is expected to increase annual sales by 5 billion yuan.

Basic information: The company plans to invest 3.31267 billion yuan to build an annual production capacity of 800,000 tons of propane dehydrogenation to propylene project, covering an area of 341 acres. After completed, it can bring an annual production capacity of 800,000 tons of propylene, 24,808 tons of C4, and 7249 tons of C5+heavy components.

Layout of SP Chemical¡äs olefin industry
The PDH plant area of SP Chemical has laid out projects for alpha olefins, polypropylene, and butanol and octanol.

500 tons/year high carbon alpha olefin pilot project: build a new 500 tons/year (based on ethylene raw materials) alpha olefin industrial test device, conduct industrial tests, and produce test products such as 1-octene, 1-hexene, and mixed heavy olefins according to the industrial test plan. Based on the results of the small-scale experiment, design an enlarged industrial experimental device, calculate according to the maximum production scale, with a maximum feeding amount of 500t/a. The actual number of experimental products manufactured will depend on the pilot scale.

On December 15th, the first motor of SP Chemical¡¯s first branch 500 tons/year high carbon alpha olefin pilot project was powered on, with the single machine test started, marking the transition of the project from the comprehensive construction phase to the test pressure phase.

With a total investment of 1.45 billion US dollars and a land area of 746 acres, the SP Chemical high end new materials project includes a new synthesis gas plant (including gas separation), a 500,000 ton/year butanol and octanol plant, a 400,000 ton/year polypropylene plant, a 420,000 ton/year alpha olefin plant, a comprehensive office building, a central control room, a 220kV substation, and supporting facilities. After completed, the project will achieve an annual production capacity of 250,000 tons of n-butanol, 90,000 tons of isobutyraldehyde, 150,000 tons of octanol, 400,000 tons of polypropylene, 420,000 tons of C4-C26+series alpha olefins, and 6000 tons of liquid argon.
