Commissioning of the Hydrogen Production Unit by Heavy Oil and Gas Gasification in the Second Phase of Zhenhai Base

2025-1-13

On January 5th, the hydrogen production unit by heavy oil and gas gasification in the second phase of Zhenhai Base achieved a successful start-up with the first feed. On January 6th, the unit smoothly produced qualified hydrogen and was successfully integrated into the grid. It took 22 hours in total. This unit became the first main unit in the second phase of Zhenhai Base that achieved a successful feed and produced qualified products, marking the large-scale industrial application of Sinopec¡äs heavy oil high-efficiency gasification technology with independent intellectual property rights.

On September 30th, 2024, the hydrogen production unit by heavy oil and gas gasification in the second phase of Zhenhai Base completed mechanical construction and became the first EPC general contracting unit in the second phase of Zhenhai Base to achieve mechanical completion. It mainly covers five units, namely the gasification unit, the purification unit, the synthetic ammonia unit, public utilities and auxiliary facilities.

The hydrogen production unit by heavy oil and gas gasification in the second phase of Zhenhai Base adopts process technologies with Sinopec¡äs independent intellectual property rights, such as SE heavy oil and gas gasification, S-COS sulfur-tolerant shift conversion, and S-AGR acid gas removal. Among them, the effective gas production capacity per furnace of the SE heavy oil and gas gasification technology is approximately 150,000 standard cubic meters per hour, making it the largest single-furnace heavy oil and gas gasification unit at present. It has effectively solved the problems of the efficient utilization of carbon-containing resources such as deoiled asphalt in refineries and unconverted oil from hydrogenation, as well as the treatment problems of high-concentration COD wastewater and waste liquid. It not only realizes the efficient resource utilization of waste but also ensures the demand for hydrogen, synthesis gas and ammonia in the whole plant, becoming a key technology for building a "green enterprise" and a "zero-waste factory".
