The 100,000-ton-per-year Green Hydrogen Project of China National Coal Group Green Energy has been Approved

2025-3-3

Recently, the Uxin Banner project of integrating wind-solar power generation for hydrogen production by China National Coal Group Green Energy (Ordos) Energy Technology Co., Ltd., the largest new energy project in terms of wind and solar power installed capacity of China National Coal Group, has obtained the approval of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region Energy Bureau for the project indicators.

The total investment of the project is 17.2 billion yuan. It is jointly applied for by China National Coal Group Green Energy (Ordos) Energy Technology Co., Ltd. and China Coal Erdos Energy & Chemical Co., Ltd. Focusing on the technical challenges of MW-level wind-solar green hydrogen, 10,000-ton-level green ammonia and green alcohol integrated systems, the project is planned to start construction in October 2025 and be completed and put into operation in September 2027.

In the wind and solar power generation part of the project, a 1.23GW photovoltaic power station and a 1.7GW wind power station will be built, and a 30MW/15MWh electrochemical energy storage facility will be constructed as a supporting facility.

In the part of hydrogen production and storage by water electrolysis, the planned hydrogen production capacity is 101,300 tons per year. A total of 216,000 Nm3/h alkaline water electrolysis hydrogen production equipment will be built, including 112 sets of 1500 Nm3/h alkaline electrolyzers and 24 sets of 2000 Nm3/h alkaline electrolyzers. The hydrogen storage scale is 1,056,000 Nm3, and 48 spherical storage tanks with a volume of 2000 m3 each will be set up for hydrogen storage, which can meet the continuous hydrogen demand of the downstream green ammonia synthesis device operating at full load for about 8.1 hours. The proportion of green electricity used for hydrogen production is not less than 97%.

The green hydrogen chemical industry includes the synthesis of green ammonia from green hydrogen and the synthesis of urea. The annual output of green ammonia is 500,000 tons, and the installed capacity of ammonia synthesis is 800,000 tons. The green ammonia is further coupled with the existing coal chemical plant to capture and purify the CO2 in the tail gas of the coal chemical plant for the synthesis of green urea, with an annual output of 880,000 tons.
