The Guangzhou Petrochemical Hydrogen Fuel Cell Hydrogen Supply Center Project Has been Put into Operation

Recently, the capacity expansion and renovation project of Sinopec Guangzhou Petrochemical Hydrogen Fuel Cell Hydrogen Supply Center has been officially put into operation. It can produce 15 tons of hydrogen with a purity of 99.999% per day, with an annual production capacity of 5100 tons. It has become the largest hydrogen fuel cell hydrogen supply center in South China, greatly enhancing the regional hydrogen energy supply capacity and supporting the rapid development of the hydrogen energy industry in the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area.
The capacity expansion and renovation project is built on the basis of the Guangzhou Petrochemical Hydrogen Fuel Cell Hydrogen Supply Center (Phase I) project, with the addition of a 5200 standard cubic meter/hour hydrogen purification unit and four hydrogen filling positions for hydrogen loading units. With the annual hydrogen capacity up from 1500 tons to 5100 tons, the produced hydrogen will continue to be supplied to Guangzhou, Foshan and Hong Kong among other places.
It is reported that the project uses hydrogen gas produced by the cracking unit and styrene unit as raw materials to produce high-purity hydrogen gas with a purity of 99.999% through pressure swing adsorption and separation processes, which can be directly used for fuel cells. As the entire project has the advantages of small footprint and low power consumption, the production process has achieved one click control and immediate use.
On March 6th, the high-purity hydrogen produced by the project was successfully sent to the first public hydrogen refueling station in Hong Kong - Sinopec Aotou Hydrogen Refueling Station. This is the first time that Sinopec¡äs fuel cell hydrogen has been officially supplied to Hong Kong. The hydrogen refueling station has a daily refueling capacity of 1 ton and provides all-weather refueling services for public buses, food and environmental vehicles, etc., helping Hong Kong achieve energy green transformation.
Sinopec has 11 hydrogen fuel cell hydrogen supply centers, accelerating the construction of China¡äs first hydrogen energy company. In recent years, Sinopec has focused on two major areas: hydrogen energy transportation and green hydrogen refining, vigorously developing hydrogen energy integration business. In terms of hydrogen energy transportation, 142 hydrogen refueling stations, together with 11 hydrogen fuel cell supply centers across the country have been built, including Guangzhou Petrochemical, Yanshan Petrochemical, Tianjin Petrochemical, Qilu Petrochemical, Qingdao Refining and Chemical, Zhenhai Refining and Chemical, leading the high-quality development of China¡äs hydrogen energy industry chain. In addition, Sinopec vigorously promotes the research and application of hydrogen energy full industry chain technology, builds key common technology platforms, and successfully puts megawatt proton exchange membrane (PEM) electrolysis water hydrogen production equipment into operation. It is the first of its kind in China to achieve the start-up of a hundred kilowatt solid oxide (SOEC) electrolysis water hydrogen production project, breaking through the kilogram level industrial production of fuel cell platinum based catalysts and building the first industrial seawater hydrogen production research project in China.

In 2020, it took the lead in launching the construction of the hydrogen fuel cell hydrogen supply center (Phase I) project with an annual production capacity of 1500 tons. It has the first commercial hydrogen charging mother station of Sinopec.
