2025-3-17

On March 6th, the 200,000-ton-per-year Carbon Capture, Utilization and Storage (CCUS) project of Huabei Petrochemical Company officially started construction.

It is understood that this project uses the shift gas from the hydrogen production unit as the raw material, adopts the V-PSA process of the Southwest Institute of Chemical to produce industrial-grade carbon dioxide products with a concentration of more than 99%, which will be supplied to Huabei Oilfield Company for carbon dioxide injection for enhanced oil recovery and storage. The project includes facilities such as a 200,000-ton-per-year carbon dioxide capture unit, a 2,000-cubic-meter spherical tank area, and a loading yard.

The detailed design of the project is undertaken by the PetroChina East China Design Institute, the general construction contracting is carried out by China Petroleum First Construction Company, and the project supervision is conducted by Beijing Xingyou Engineering Company.

At present, through the coordinated efforts of all participating units, more than half of the detailed design of the project has been completed, the ordering of long-lead equipment such as compressors has been finished, and the conditions for on-site construction have been met. It is expected to be completed and put into operation by the end of 2025.
