The First Domestic VCM-Based R152a Plant Successfully Tested

Recently, it was learned from Jiangxi Lee & Man Chemical Company that the 10,000 tons/year difluoroethane plant self-funded with 170 million yuan has been successfully put into trial operation in one go, marking the industrial production of VCM-based difluoroethane in China.
Since its establishment in 2011, the company has always adhered to the philosophy of "daring to learn, daring to work hard, and daring to innovate" while keeping independent innovation and deeply cultivating in the field of fluorine chemical industry. The company has successfully developed various high-end fluoropolymers with superior performance, such as high permeability modified suspended polytetrafluoroethylene, modified dispersed polytetrafluoroethylene, and extruded pipe polytetrafluoroethylene resin. At present, the company creates a complete industrial chain with caustic soda as the leader, methane chloride as the intermediate product, and fluoride as the final product.
Difluoroethane (R152a) is a fluorinated chemical that cannot be replaced as a raw material in the manufacturing industry of high molecular weight fluorinated polymers for new energy materials. Under the guidance of the national "dual carbon" strategy, the company has successfully overcome key technological barriers in the field of fluorine chemical industry. The first domestic industrial plant for the continuous production of VCM-based difluoroethane (R152a) has been officially put into operation, marking a new process route in the production of fluorine-containing chemicals in China. This technology has been granted two national invention patents, including "a device and production method for continuous production of 1,1-difluoroethane", filling the gap in the industrial production of VCM-based difluoroethane in China.
While the current domestic production of R152a generally adopts the acetylene process in which raw material acetylene mainly comes from calcium carbide, the raw material supply of VCM-based R152a is sufficient and its transportation radius advantage is obvious. The company has independent intellectual property rights for the production process of VCM-based difluoroethane. Through a continuous flow reaction design system, it can achieve continuous and stable industrial production of R152a.
Driven by the "dual carbon" goal, the green production mode of fluorine chemicals will become the main development trend of the future market. The carbon reduction effect of VCM-based R152a is significantly better than that of the carbide-based process, with an expected decrease of 50% -60% in product carbon footprint. Its successful operation not only sets an example of independent innovation for the industry, but also reflects the active practice of the national carbon emission dual control system.
