National Salt Cavern Hydrogen Storage Project Settles in Pingmei Group United Salination

2025-5-20

Recently, the national demonstration project for salt cavern hydrogen storage has officially settled in China Pingmei Shenma Group United Salination, marking an important step in the utilization of salt cavern resources.

It is reported that salt cavern hydrogen storage is regarded as a key technical path to solve the challenges of hydrogen energy storage due to its advantages of good sealing performance, large-scale hydrogen storage capacity, low cost, and high safety. The settlement of the national salt cavern hydrogen storage demonstration project in China Pingmei Shenma Group United Salination is based on the company¡äs abundant salt field resources, previous exploration and practice in salt cavern energy storage projects, and project implementation capabilities in collaboration with research institutions such as the Institute of Rock and Soil Mechanics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (Wuhan).

It is understood that the settled salt cavern hydrogen storage demonstration project plans to achieve a hydrogen storage capacity of 1.5 million cubic meters. At present, the hydrogen storage wells in the salt cavern have completed the drilling engineering and entered the cavity formation stage, with related ground supporting facilities being promoted simultaneously. Meanwhile, the project team will also participate in and promote the formulation of national and industrial safety technical standards for salt cavern hydrogen storage.
