The Progress of Shanghai Huayi¡äs 100,000-ton Green Methanol Project

On May 23, 2025, Li Chuanjiang, Deputy General Manager of China National Chemical Engineering Third Construction Co., Ltd., attended the handover ceremony of the POX unit cluster for the Shanghai Huayi Syngas Supply and Supporting Project, and conducted on-site research at the Huayi Green Methanol Project.
With the handover of the POX unit, the construction of the 100,000-ton/year green methanol project will be fully accelerated. The green methanol project mainly uses biogas produced by the fermentation of wet waste and animal manure to produce biomethane. Relying on the by-product resources of the POX unit and adopting an advanced low-pressure synthesis process, it will produce 100,000 tons/year of green methanol. The project is undertaken by Tianchen Engineering Corporation and Sinochem Third Construction as the general contractor.
During the construction of the green methanol project, advanced technologies such as modular prefabrication and assembly-type construction will be promoted to further shorten the construction period. The Huayi Syngas Supply and Supporting Project will build a new 800,000-ton/year acetic acid unit and a 300,000-ton/year synthetic ammonia unit, supplying 80,000 m³/h of CO+H₂ to the chemical industry park. The construction includes air separation, POX unit, MDEA purification, membrane separation and PSA, CO cold box, synthetic ammonia, acetic acid unit, etc.
