2025-6-17
South Korean chemical giant LG Chem announced on June 13th that it has decided to sell water treatment to private equity firm Glenwood for 1.4 trillion Korean won (approximately 7.35 billion yuan).
Since LG Chem acquired NanoH2O from the United States in 2014 and officially entered the water treatment business, it has achieved sustained growth. Currently, its market share in the global seawater desalination reverse osmosis membrane (RO membrane) market is second only to Japan¡äs Toray, ranking second.
As the petrochemical industry continues to decline, LG Chem has taken measures to adjust its financial structure. According to LG Chem, this adjustment is part of its investment strategy focused on three new growth drivers: battery materials, environmentally friendly materials and new drugs.
In 2024, LG Chem¡äs water treatment business generated sales of 222 billion Korean won, with a total of 377 billion Korean won of assets involved in transfers.
