Efficient Treatment Technology for Epoxy Propane Wastewater Identified

On June 5th, the "Efficient Treatment Technology for Epoxy Propane Wastewater" project jointly developed by Sinopec (Beijing) Chemical Research Institute Co., Ltd. and Sinopec Hunan Petrochemical Co., Ltd. passed the scientific and technological achievement appraisal by the Science and Technology Department of the Group Company. The meeting was chaired by Peng Yongzhen, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering. The review team agreed that this achievement has driven the technological innovation of efficient and low-cost treatment of high concentration refractory organic wastewater, the overall technology has reached the international leading level, and promoted the development of HPPO (propylene oxide production technology by direct oxidation of dioxygenated water) industry, with significant economic and social benefits.
The R&D team has developed universal technologies to address the common challenges faced in the treatment of high concentration and complex component wastewater during the implementation of Sinopec¡äs oil conversion and chemical conversion special strategy. The first fully enclosed HPPO wastewater treatment system in China has been built, with obvious advantages in investment, operating costs, and operational management. Since its commissioning in 2024, the industrial equipment has operated stably, with significantly improved resistance to production fluctuations and optimized key indicators. The consumption of oxidants and catalysts has been reduced by more than 50%, solid waste production has been reduced by more than 55%, effluent COD has remained stable at around 900mg/L, and the average removal rate of pollutants has reached over 90%. Since the implementation of the project, the annual marginal profit has exceeded 2.5 million yuan and the annual carbon dioxide emissions have been reduced by 23,000 tons, delivering huge economic and social benefits.
The review team suggests further improving the green and low-carbon treatment technology platform system for high concentration and complex component wastewater and actively promoting its application in other wastewater treatments.
