Bohua Engineering Supports the Construction of Caustic Soda Project in Belarus

2025-6-24

On June 19th, it was learned from Tianjin Bohua Engineering Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "Bohua Engineering") that recently, with the continuous deepening of Bohua Engineering¡äs development strategy of "based domestically and going overseas", the company has expanded its footprints in another city in the Eastern European Plain, where the design work of the 10,000 tons/year caustic soda BPDS project in Belarus has been carried out in an orderly manner.

Belarusian National Oil Company is a large state-owned energy group in Belarus that integrates oil and gas exploration, refining and chemical industry, and sales of refined oil products. It is not only the largest state-owned enterprise in the country, but also the absolute leader in the energy sector. With its business covering over 80% of the country¡äs energy supply, it is the "energy engine" of the Belarusian national economy.

The 10,000 ton/year caustic soda BPDS project in Belarus is the first ion exchange membrane caustic soda project since the founding of the country. The implementation of this project is a milestone for the country¡äs economic and industrial development.

Based on the annual demand of about 80,000 tons for caustic soda in Belarus previously, there were only two small diaphragm-processed factories in the country (with a total production capacity of 30,000 tons per year), relying on imports from countries such as Russia and Lithuania for a long time. After the project is put into operation, the self-sufficiency rate of caustic soda in the country will significantly increase, which can effectively resist the impact of international market price fluctuations on downstream industries.

Caustic soda, as a key raw material for high-end chemicals such as polycarbonate, epichlorohydrin and dyes, will become a "springboard" for the upgrading of Belarus¡ä chemical industry. Belarusian National Oil Company plans to leverage this project to step into the field of fine chemicals, enhance product added value, and promote the industry¡äs leap towards high-value sectors.

The construction of this project will drive employment in local construction, equipment installation and other fields and create hundreds of stable jobs after it is put into operation. The ion membrane process boasts significant environmental advantages. It can not only help the Belarusian National Petroleum Company meet the requirements of the European Union¡äs "Carbon Tariff" (CBAM), clearing obstacles for the next step of chemical products entering the European market, but also reduce comprehensive energy consumption by 15% through waste heat recovery and wastewater treatment systems, helping Belarus achieve the national goal of "reducing carbon emissions by 20% by 2030" and achieving dual improvement in economic and ecological benefits.

From crude oil extraction to refined oil products, from traditional energy layout to the extension of the chemical industry chain, the company, which carries the mission of Belarus¡ä economic development, is taking the "10,000-ton ion membrane caustic soda project" as a breakthrough point to embark on a new journey of petrochemical industry development.

As a project designer, Bohua Engineering has been continuously developing overseas markets in recent years, with footprints covering Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and Eastern Europe. The 10,000-ton caustic soda project in cooperation with the Belarusian National Oil Company is not only a breakthrough in Bohua Engineering¡äs technology output, but also a vivid display of the company¡äs transformation from "scale expansion" to "value creation". As the largest state-owned enterprise in Belarus, Belarusian National Oil Company is deeply involved in the entire oil and gas industry chain, with business covering exploration, refining, sales, and chemical raw material production. As a benchmark enterprise with leading qualifications and technology in the industry, the company has significant advantages in EPC general contracting, technology output, and petrochemical energy conservation of ion membrane caustic soda, PVC and other equipment. The industries of both sides are highly complementary - the upgrading of refining and high-end chemical projects of Belarusian oil, combined with the engineering technology and standard experience of Bohua Engineering, form synergy. From traditional equipment transformation to green chemical layout, there is a vast space for cooperation. It is expected to jointly build a new benchmark for China Belarus chemical cooperation.

With the continuous deepening of bilateral cooperation under the framework of the China-Central Asia Summit, Bohua Engineering plans to leverage the European market with Belarus as the pivot. In the future, Bohua Engineering will focus on emerging fields such as hydrogen energy and new energy materials, layout more landmark projects, and contribute the "Bohua Chemical Solution" to the green and low-carbon development of the international chemical industry with an open and inclusive attitude.
