2025-7-22
Recently, Qatar Vinyl Company announced that it will start PVC production at its new factory in Mesaid in September. It will become Qatar¡äs first PVC production plant, with a designed annual capacity of 350,000 tons. The project was initially announced in April 2022 and was approved in October of the same year.
At present, the annual production capacity of the company includes 370,000 tons of caustic soda, 180,000 tons of dichloroethane, 355,000 tons of vinyl chloride monomer, and 15,000 tons of 32% hydrochloric acid solution. According to sources, given the factory¡äs production capacity far exceeding Qatar¡äs domestic demand, it is expected that Europe will become its main export market.
The current PVC market in Europe is facing multiple pressures, including weak demand, global oversupply and intensified price competition for imported products from Asia. Previously, Vinova announced that it would cease PVC production at its Beck plant in the Netherlands, while Dow plans to shut down its chlor alkali and PVC production facilities at its Shikobao plant in Germany by the fourth quarter of 2027. Despite these shutdown measures, market participants indicate that the PVC markets in Europe, Middle East and North Africa are expected to further go through adjustments to achieve market balance.
