Air Liquide Qingdao 300,000-Tonne Green Methanol Project Approved

On September 11, 2025, the Air Liquide (Qingdao) No. 2 Co., Ltd. Air Liquide Green Methanol and Air Separation Production Base Project successfully obtained record-filing, with the project number 2509-370211-04-01-849130. This milestone event marks a major breakthrough for Air Liquide Group (referred to as Air Liquide for short) in its first green methanol project in China, injecting strong impetus into China¡äs energy transition drive.
Officially signed on August 28, 2024, during the Qingdao Summit of Multinational Corporation Leaders, the project was successfully introduced by the Investment Promotion Center of Qingdao West Coast New Area. With an ambitious plan, it is expected to produce 300,000 tonnes of biomass-based methanol annually, mainly using biomass resources such as straw as raw materials. Straw, which was previously randomly discarded, used inefficiently, or even caused environmental pollution, will be converted into clean and efficient green energy in Air Liquide¡äs project, realizing maximum resource utilization and turning waste into treasure.
From production to sales, the project has a clear and forward-looking plan. The green methanol products produced will not only be supplied to key cities in major domestic ports via convenient maritime transportation to meet domestic clean energy demand, but also be exported to the global market, demonstrating the appeal of China¡äs green energy.
