Wanhua Chemical (Fujian) 1.5 Million Ton MDI Technical Transformation and Capacity Expansion Project

On October 11, 2025, Fuzhou Municipal Bureau of Ecology and Environment issued the "Approval Opinion on the Environmental Impact Assessment Report of the 1.5 Million Ton/Year MDI Technical Transformation and Capacity Expansion Integration Project of Wanhua Chemical (Fujian) Isocyanate Co., Ltd.", agreeing that the project shall be constructed in accordance with the construction location, nature, scale and environmental protection countermeasures specified in the environmental impact assessment report.
The project is located in the reserved land of the existing plant area of Wanhua Chemical (Fujian) Isocyanate Co., Ltd. in Fuzhou Jiangyin Port Economic Zone. Based on the original 800,000 ton/year MDI project, it plans to carry out technical transformation on MDI refrigerant, condensation unit, photochemical unit and separation unit to match the 1.5 million ton/year MDI production capacity. It will add and expand relevant public utilities and auxiliary facilities synchronously, purchase and pre-install reaction equipment, towers, heat exchangers, pumps and other related auxiliary equipment, and add 700,000 tons/year of MDI, 340,500 tons/year of HCL and 2,600 tons/year of methanol.
According to the disclosure in Wanhua Chemical¡äs 2024 annual report, by the end of 2024, the company had an MDI production capacity of 3.8 million tons/year. At the same time, Wanhua Fujian¡äs MDI will undergo technical transformation and capacity expansion to add 700,000 tons/year, which is expected to be completed in the second quarter of 2026. By then, Wanhua¡äs global MDI production capacity will reach 4.5 million tons/year.
