Nouryon Made Several Significant Investments in China
2025-10-17
The multinational specialty chemicals company Nouryon recently announced several significant investments in China: increasing alkylmetal production capacity, adding a new line for modified methylaluminoxane production, and establishing an organic peroxide innovation center in China to meet the growing demand for high-performance polymers in the Chinese polymer market.
On October 15, Nouryon Chemicals (Jiaxing) completed the expansion of its alkyl metal production line, doubling the capacity of triethylaluminum. This product serves as a critical co-catalyst for the production of polyethylene and polypropylene, which are essential for packaging materials, automotive components and consumer goods.
Nouryon plans to commence production of modified methylaluminoxane (MMAO) in China by 2027. This product is a key component of the catalyst required for producing polyolefin elastomers used in solar panel manufacturing.
Additionally, Nouryon plans to establish an organic peroxide innovation center in Tianjin by 2026, further enhancing the application R&D capabilities of specialty polymers to accelerate product development and strengthen customer support.
"These investments demonstrate our unwavering commitment to delivering future-oriented polymer specialty chemical solutions to our customers through localized production and innovation. Based on deep technical expertise in the global polymer catalyst sector aligning with local market demands, we are dedicated to enhancing supply reliability, accelerating innovation and supporting customer growth." Said Larry Ryan, President of Nouryon.
Ryan added that the alkali metal capacity expansion project also includes the upgrading of key infrastructure, particularly the installation of advanced thermal oxidizer emission control systems and the addition of packaging and blending stations. This will further solidify the strategic position of Nouryon Chemicals (Jiaxing)¡¯s production base. The base established a research and development laboratory in 2024, focusing on improving the process efficiency of alkali metals and developing new production processes.
Nouryon¡äs alkali metal production facilities are located worldwide, spanning from LaPorte, Texas, USA, and Rotterdam, the Netherlands, to Jiaxing, China. The company has also established alkali metal R&D laboratories in Deventer, the Netherlands, and Jiaxing, China, along with blending stations in Jiaxing, China; P¨®lo, Brazil; and Mahad, India.
