Recycled Vinyl Emergency Roof Kits Donated to West Baton Rouge Parish

2025-10-24

The Vinyl Institute (VI), a U.S. trade association representing the leading manufacturers of vinyl, is proud to support the donation of 270 emergency response kits to the West Baton Rouge Parish in Louisiana. The kits were manufactured by Every Shelter, a nonprofit specializing in emergency response roof kits made from recycled vinyl billboards. Representatives from Vinyl Institute member companies Shintech and Formosa Plastics were present to donate the 270 kits to Deano Moran, Director of West Baton Rouge Parish¡¯s OSHEP.

¡°This donation to West Baton Rouge Parish reflects the vinyl industry¡¯s deep commitment to resilience and innovation,¡± said Ned Monroe, President and CEO of the VI. ¡°By repurposing vinyl billboards into roof kits, Every Shelter shows us that sustainability and emergency preparedness go hand in hand.¡±

¡°Shintech is honored to assist first responders and the communities where we live and work in providing these roof patch kits. The recycled vinyl tarps the kits contain are a critical resource for homes and residents impacted by storm damage. It¡¯s sustainability and ingenuity for some peace of mind, especially during hurricane season,¡± said Tim Bergeron, Shintech EHS Director.

¡°Formosa Plastics is proud to partner with the Vinyl Institute and Every Shelter to support resilient, sustainable solutions that help protect our Louisiana communities when they need it most,¡± said Dick Heinle, Vice President, Formosa Plastics Corporation, U.S.A.

Each Emergency Roof Patch Kit covers a 6¡Á8 foot section of damaged roof and includes cap nails and installation instructions for quick, on-the-ground deployment by residents, volunteers, or trained crews. This donation follows the launch of an emergency response pilot program in Lake Charles in May and the donation of kits to Iberville Parish in June.

Every Shelter received two VIABILITY recycling grants in May of 2023 and June of 2024 to repurpose used vinyl billboards for the Emergency Roof Patch Kits. To learn more about Every Shelter¡¯s VIABILITY grants, click here.
