The 1.2 million Tons/Year Ethylene Unit at Guangxi Petrochemical Officially Commenced Feedstock Operation

Recently, the 1.2 million tons/year ethylene unit at China National Petroleum Corporation¡äs Guangxi Petrochemical Company (hereinafter referred to as Guangxi Petrochemical) officially commenced operation and produced qualified products in the early hours of October 27, marking the successful one-time startup of the unit. This achievement will help establish a new petrochemical industry ecosystem in Southwest China characterized by "leading-driven development and cluster growth.".

A relevant official from Guangxi Petrochemical stated that this pivotal milestone marks the company¡äs fundamental transformation from a "fuel-oriented" refinery to an integrated petrochemical enterprise focused on "chemical products and organic materials." It also serves as a "turbo boost" for the petrochemical industry in Southwest China to upgrade its industrial ecosystem toward "leading enterprise-driven development and cluster-based growth.".

Contracted by China Huanqiu Contracting & Engineering, the facility employs large-scale ethylene process technology with independent intellectual property rights developed by China National Petroleum Corporation. It has an annual production capacity of 1.2 million tons of polymer-grade ethylene, 616,000 tons of polymer-grade propylene, 400,000 tons of hydrogenated gasoline, and 35,000 tons of styrene, while also producing over 20 types of chemical raw materials, products, and semi-finished goods such as hydrogen, cracked C5, C9, and cracked fuel oil. Upon operation, the facility will help Guangxi Petrochemical reduce oil product output by 3.49 million tons annually and increase chemical product output by 3.06 million tons. High-end products like membrane materials and pipe materials will directly fill domestic supply gaps, alleviating the structural imbalance in China¡äs petrochemical industry characterized by "excess oil but insufficient chemicals and lack of high-end products.".
