Construction of Leaf Biotech ¡äs 10,000-tonne FDCA Production Line Project Enters Critical Phase
2025-11-13
Recently, the construction of the 10,000-tonne production line project for biomass furan-based new material furandicarboxylic acid (FDCA) of Tongling Leaf Biotech Co., Ltd., which is EPC contracted by the Design Institute of China National Chemical Engineering No.3 Construction Co., Ltd., has entered the critical phase. This marks China¡äs upcoming breakthrough in the bio-based materials field from technological catch-up to industrial leadership, and will provide important support for the global "carbon neutrality" goal.
As the world¡äs first 10,000-tonne continuous FDCA production line, the project has broken through the bottleneck of bio-based materials industrialization. Its core product FDCA can replace petroleum-based PET materials and is widely used in food packaging, fibers, films and other fields. The downstream product PEF boasts excellent gas barrier properties, high mechanical strength and complete biodegradability, known as the "next-generation green polyester".
After the project reaches full production capacity, it is expected to reduce petroleum consumption by over one million tonnes, promote the low-carbon transformation of the packaging and textile industries. It will also fill the global gap in large-scale supply of bio-based polyester raw materials, seize the high ground of the 100-billion-yuan new materials market, inject new momentum into Tongling¡äs efforts to build a "bio-manufacturing city", and assist in the coordinated upgrading of the green industrial chain in the Yangtze River Delta.
