Arkema and BASF Jointly Launch a Circular Utilization Cooperation Project
2025-12-12
On the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the development and construction of the Shanghai Chemical Industry Park, Arkema and BASF jointly launched the "Tetrahydrofuran Aqueous Solution Point-to-Point Circular Utilization Cooperation Project" within the park. This collaborative innovation initiative is set to inject new impetus into the circular economy of the chemical industry.
The signing ceremony of the project was held at the Shanghai Chemical Industry Park on December 9th. Leaders from the Administrative Committee and Development Company of the Shanghai Chemical Industry Park, representatives from BASF, and the relevant team of Arkema attended the ceremony, jointly witnessing the birth of this green milestone.
Under the cooperation plan, Arkema and BASF will realize the circular reuse of approximately 1,500 tons of tetrahydrofuran aqueous solution per year within the park. The by-product tetrahydrofuran aqueous solution, which Arkema originally needed to outsource for disposal, will be converted into qualified raw materials for downstream production through BASF¡äs advanced purification technology under compliant and controllable premises. This innovative model not only effectively improves resource utilization efficiency but also provides a replicable and practical path for the chemical industry to explore the "point-to-point" circular utilization system.
The smooth implementation of this cooperation project is attributed to the professional collaboration and continuous efforts of the teams from both Arkema and BASF, as well as the strong support of the Shanghai Chemical Industry Park in policy guidance and cross-enterprise coordination. With the joint efforts of all parties, this circular utilization model has been transformed from a concept into reality, which is a positive response to China¡äs "dual carbon" strategy and Shanghai¡äs "zero-waste city" construction.
