Total Trading Volume of National Carbon Market Exceeded 57 Billion Yuan in 2025

According to a recent release from the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, by the end of December 31, 2025, the cumulative trading volume of allowances in the national carbon emission rights trading market (hereinafter referred to as the national carbon market) had reached 865 million tonnes, with a total trading value of 57.663 billion yuan.
A responsible official from the Department of Climate Change Response of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment stated that over the past year, the vitality of the national carbon market has been steadily enhanced. Key emission entities covered by the national carbon market have continued to strengthen their awareness of carbon emission reduction, and the compliance rate of allowance surrender has remained at a high level. The support scope of the national voluntary greenhouse gas emission reduction trading market has been further expanded, ushering the market into a phase of rapid expansion.
Statistics show that in 2025, a total of 3,378 key emission entities were included in the allowance management of the national carbon market. The annual trading volume of allowances hit 235 million tonnes, a year-on-year increase of approximately 24%, with a trading value of 14.63 billion yuan, indicating a continuous expansion of the trading scale.
The official further noted that in 2025, the formulation and issuance of methodologies for voluntary greenhouse gas emission reduction projects were accelerated. Twelve methodologies were released, including those for oilfield gas recovery and utilization, and sulfur hexafluoride recovery and purification of electrical equipment, driving the rapid expansion of the market. The registration of voluntary emission reduction projects and emission reductions has also been progressing at a fast pace. By the end of December 2025, 33 voluntary emission reduction projects had been registered, representing 17.7637 million tonnes of emission reductions; the cumulative trading volume of certified voluntary emission reductions (CCER) reached 9.2194 million tonnes, with a trading value of 650 million yuan; a total of 6,106 accounts had been opened in the registration system, covering legal entities such as project owners and key emission entities.
