New Energy Electricity Consumption in Gansu Exceeds 55 Billion kWh in 2025
2026-2-26
It was recently learned from State Grid Gansu Electric Power Company that in 2025, the province¡äs new energy electricity consumption reached 55.03 billion kilowatt-hours (kWh), accounting for 30.5% of its annual total social electricity consumption, hitting a record high. This implies that nearly one out of every three kilowatt-hours of electricity consumed in Gansu comes from new energy sources.
By the end of 2025, the total installed capacity of new energy in Gansu Province had exceeded 80 million kW, reaching 80.416 million kW, up 24.94% year on year. New energy accounted for more than 64% of the total installed power capacity. Wind power and solar power have become the province¡¯s top two power sources. The annual new energy power generation of the whole province reached 96.33 billion kWh, and the momentum of green development continued to unfold.
To ensure new energy is generated efficiently and utilized effectively, State Grid Gansu Electric Power Company has adopted a package of measures and promoted cross-professional collaboration, striving to build a new model of a new-type power system. It has optimized power dispatching, promoted the flexibility retrofitting of provincial thermal power units, strengthened the coordinated dispatching of cascade hydropower, and enhanced the depth and maximum capacity of peak regulation across the grid. It has advanced the construction of UHV power grids: the Gansu-to-Hunan and Gansu-to-Shandong power transmission projects have been completed and put into operation, while the Gansu-to-Zhejiang project is under accelerated construction. The province has formed a large sending-end power grid structure with the 750 kV grid as the backbone and coordinated development of power grids at all levels. Its cross-regional and cross-provincial power transmission capacity has risen to 46.3 million kW, with Gansu electricity delivered to 26 provinces nationwide. It has expanded the provincial power market, serving the on-schedule operation of 154 major projects and adding 2.6166 million kVA of new power capacity, effectively driving growth in power demand. It has innovated power market mechanisms, guiding customers to participate actively in the power market, and encouraging users to adjust production schedules during periods of high new energy output through flexible price signals, thus improving local accommodation capacity. It has leveraged the regulatory role of energy storage, supporting the province¡¯s new-type energy storage installed capacity of 8.4058 million kW. China¡¯s first coordinated control system for new-type energy storage has been built and put into use, further raising the utilization rate of new energy.
