Shandong Haihua Group Plans to Implement Energy-Saving and Environmental Protection Renovation of Soda Ash Plants

2026-2-27

Shandong Haihua Group announced on February 26 that it plans to invest 4.837 billion yuan in the "Quality Improvement, Efficiency Enhancement, Energy-Saving and Environmental Protection Renovation Project of Soda Ash Plants Based on Comprehensive Utilization of Resources and Energy", with a project construction period of 24 months.

The announcement stated that the company¡äs existing 1.2 million tons/year ammonia-soda process soda ash production line has been in operation for more than 30 years, featuring outdated equipment and high energy consumption. In addition, the production line is under great emission pressure, which can no longer meet the needs of modern industrial development, making the technological transformation and upgrading an imperative measure. The planned scale of the transformation from the ammonia-soda process to the combined soda process in this project is 1 million tons per year, which will replace the production capacity of the original 1.2 million tons Solvay (ammonia-soda process) soda ash plant, with a capacity replacement ratio of 1.2:1. This belongs to capacity reduction replacement and is in line with the relevant national industrial policies.

According to the announcement, the project will build a new 400,000 tons/year synthetic ammonia plant and a new 1 million tons/year combined soda process plant (producing 400,000 tons of light soda ash and 600,000 tons of heavy soda ash annually, with a by-product of 1.03 million tons of ammonium chloride). Meanwhile, the calcination, compression, packaging, storage and transportation facilities as well as some public engineering facilities of the existing ammonia-soda production line can be utilized.

Shandong Haihua Group indicated that the project takes the green and low-carbon transformation of energy as its core goal. It plans to systematically construct a green and low-carbon technology system through the dual paths of "green power substitution" and "direct supply for cost reduction", laying out in advance for the enterprise¡äs carbon peaking and carbon neutrality goals and promoting the green and low-carbon transformation of the enterprise¡äs development.
