Bohai Chemical Extends Propane Dehydrogenation Unit Shutdown for Maintenance

2026-3-16

Tianjin Bohai Chemical Co., Ltd. announced on March 10 that it would appropriately extend the originally scheduled maintenance shutdown of its PDH (Propane Dehydrogenation) unit, marking the second extension of the unit¡äs maintenance period.

According to a notice released by Bohai Chemical on October 14, 2025, the 600,000 tpy PDH unit of its fully-owned subsidiary Tianjin Bohai Petrochemical Co., Ltd. began maintenance shutdown on October 13, 2025, as per the annual plan, with an estimated maintenance period of about 30 days.

However, changes occurred just over a month later. On November 22, 2025, Bohai Chemical issued an announcement stating that due to the needs of the newly-built acrylate and superabsorbent resin new material projects within the Bohai Petrochemical plant, the PDH unit needed to conduct joint commissioning and testing of equipment and public utilities with the new projects. To ensure stable operation of the unit, the maintenance period of the PDH unit had to be extended, with production expected to resume by the end of February 2026.

As for the reason for the second extension, Bohai Chemical clearly stated in the announcement: "Affected by the recent military conflicts between the US, Israel and Iran, the sustainability of raw material supply has been severely impacted. Meanwhile, to ensure the safety and operational efficiency of subsequent production units, the company decided to appropriately extend the originally scheduled maintenance shutdown of the PDH unit."

It added that "the specific duration of this extension will be dynamically adjusted according to market changes and maintenance progress."
