India¡¯s First Glycerol Based Epichlorohydrin (ECH) Plant Fully Commissioned

2026-4-8

On April 1, 2026, India¡¯s DCM Shriram officially fully commissioned its epichlorohydrin (ECH) plant in Jhagadia, Bharuch district, Gujarat. The commissioning marks the successful completion of the project. The plant initially launched its first phase of 35,000 tonnes per annum capacity on October 14, 2025, and smoothly brought the remaining 17,000 tonnes per annum capacity online at 16:00 on April 1, after just five and a half months.

This brings its total annual capacity to 52,000 tonnes, and the plant is now operating at full load. The highlight of this commissioning lies in a technological breakthrough. DCM Shriram¡¯s facility adopts the glycerol based process, making it India¡¯s first environmentally friendly ECH production unit using glycerol as the primary feedstock.

The fully commissioned ECH plant serves as a key foundation for DCM Shriram to expand downstream. The company has clearly stated that it will continue to explore and plan epoxy resin projects in the same region. The full production of DCM Shriram¡¯s ECH project represents another important milestone in the self sufficiency of India¡¯s domestic chemical supply chain.
