Gansu¡¯s First Large-Scale Biomass Methanol Project Breaks Ground

2026-4-10

On March 30, construction commenced on the 100,000-tonne-per-annum biomass green methanol project of Ecological Company of Lanzhou New Area Energy Technology Group in Gansu Province. As the first large-scale project for green methanol production from biomass in Gansu, it will serve as an important demonstration for exploring low-carbon transition pathways in China¡¯s energy and chemical industry.

With a total investment of 1.427 billion yuan and covering approximately 350 mu of land, the project will be built in two phases. Located in the Chemical Park of Lanzhou New Area, it leverages the park¡¯s complete supporting facilities and transportation conditions. The first phase plans to build a production capacity of 50,000 tonnes of green methanol per year, and the total capacity will reach 100,000 tonnes per year upon completion of the second phase.
The project adopts internationally advanced biomass thermochemical conversion technology, using renewable biomass such as crop straw and forestry waste as raw materials to produce green methanol via high-efficiency catalytic conversion. This technology not only realizes the full-industry-chain clean utilization of biomass resources, but also reduces carbon emissions at the source.

Based on this project, Energy Technology Group will establish the industrial chain of ¡°agricultural and forestry waste ¨C clean energy ¨C green fuel¡±, driving the integrated development of agriculture, new energy, green chemical and other industries. The project is scheduled to be completed and put into operation by the end of 2027.
