Global Largest Green Hydrogen Coupled Coal Chemical Demonstration Project Completed Mechanical Completion

The world¡äs largest green hydrogen coupled coal chemical demonstration project of Ningxia Baofeng Energy has successfully achieved mechanical completion. The overall construction progress of the project is on schedule, marking the start of the pre-commissioning commissioning phase. With a total investment of 13.5 billion yuan, the project deploys 30 sets of large-scale water electrolysis hydrogen production equipment. Upon completion, it will form an annual production capacity of 150,000 tons of green hydrogen and 50,000 tons of green oxygen, and support the green transformation of the supporting 2 million tons per annum coal-to-olefins plant simultaneously.

The project is centered on replacing the traditional fossil-based hydrogen production process with green hydrogen, further optimizing the coal chemical production structure and substantially cutting coal consumption and carbon emissions. It can reduce carbon dioxide emissions by over 4.5 million tons annually, serving as a benchmark project for the low-carbon transition of China¡¯s coal chemical industry. Adopting mature and advanced alkaline water electrolysis technology, the project fully relies on local photovoltaic and wind power new energy bases in Ningxia for power supply, featuring outstanding clean attributes. It also steadily drives down the production cost of green hydrogen. According to the enterprise¡¯s official announcement, the project will start feed commissioning in June. Upon full operation, the comprehensive energy consumption of the coal-to-olefins production unit will decrease by 30%, and the overall production cost will be reduced by 12%, achieving both environmental and economic benefits.
