US Chemical Firm Celanese to Restructure Nylon Business
2026-5-11
US chemical giant Celanese announced on May 5 that it will restructure its nylon business, shut down its nylon 66 plant in Singapore, and optimize its nylon 66 polymer production facilities in the United States.
Celanese stated that it is restructuring its nylon business to build a more competitive and resilient development platform for the future. The company plans to close the nylon 66 plant on Jurong Island by the end of July 2026, while optimizing its nylon 6,6 polymer production facilities in Richmond, Virginia and Washington, West Virginia in the US. The above measures will lead to a reduction in nylon 66 polymer output.
In addition to the adjustment of its nylon business, Celanese has rolled out a series of supporting measures for its engineered materials business. These include advancing liquid crystal polymer-related businesses in China, expanding production capacity for specialty compounds in Europe, launching new medical-grade composite materials in Asia and optimizing product mix and achieving localized production in India.
As a global manufacturer of specialty materials and chemicals, Celanese employs over 11,000 people and posted net sales of approximately 9.5 billion US dollars in 2025.
