2026-6-8
On June 4, 2026, Celanese, a global specialty materials and chemical company, announced a major production network optimization initiative to support the growth and strengthening strategy of its engineering materials business. Over the past few years, Celanese has rolled out a host of key measures. By investing in world-class production facilities across the globe, the company strives to deliver high-quality, high-performance and highly reliable engineering materials to customers and ensure stable product supply.
As part of this optimization drive, Celanese will close its engineering materials manufacturing plant in Ulsan, South Korea. It plans to halt all production operations at the Ulsan plant with immediate effect. The company will fully support customers in fulfilling all contractual commitments and ensure a smooth transition of production to its other manufacturing sites across Asia.
Production capacity from the Ulsan plant will be relocated to Celanese¡¯s facilities in Nanjing and Shenzhen of China, as well as its plant in Silvassa, India. These moves are designed to streamline the operational structure of its engineering materials business, optimize costs and manufacturing footprint, and maximize the utilization of its state-of-the-art production assets in Shenzhen, Nanjing and Silvassa. The measures are also expected to strengthen the company¡¯s regional supply chain network.
Celanese¡¯s product portfolio, including PET, PA, PBT and HTN, plays a vital role in driving industrial and regional growth. The broader Asia region presents enormous expansion opportunities. Celanese is building production and compounding capacities close to its customer base to better meet the rising market demand.
