Energy Agreement of Hundreds of Billions Dollar Brings Greater Pressure on Coal to Gas

2017-11-17

From November 8th to November 10th, 2017, U.S. President Donald Trump completed his first trip to China. Within two days during Trump′s stay, the Sino-US energy companies signed agreement over hundreds of billions dollar. The main areas of cooperation covered natural gas and other energy fields. China is one of the largest consumers of natural gas in the world. If the United States wants to promote energy exports, China will undoubtedly become the most important market the United States aims at. In fact, since the beginning of this year, China′s LNG imports from the United States have been growing rapidly. The amount of imported LNG from the United States in the first 10 months of this year is already 15 times of the annual import volume in 2016. The author felt through the interview that the United States increased its export trade of natural gas to China and put more pressure on China′s coal to gas industry, which has already in a difficult situation. The author believes that as China′s coal to gas industry is still in the demonstration stage, emeging problems including large investment on projects, high product costs and immature technology can not be underestimated. The government should attach great importance to the development of China′s coal to gas industry and strengthen its competitiveness in the market through policy. It is aimed to realize the healthy and sustainable development of coal-to-gas industry in China.
